Alcala de los Gazules lies within the Alcornocales Natural Park famous for its cork trees and a haven for wild life. This is a fantastic area for nature lovers, walkers and those who enjoy fresh air and magnificent countryside. The pueblo is an interesting combination of elegant plazas, corkscrew streets and whitewashed buildings. Some of the castle still remains from the Arabic period and many religious buildings constructed at the time of the reconquest of the area by the Christians still stand. Also of interest is the Fuente de la Salada dating back to Roman times. It was built to provide spring water for the town.
